SILENT NIGHT, SILENT STRUGGLES:
The Mental Health of LGBT Persons During the Holidays

Written By: FTS PridePulse

Pasko na naman, mga kaibigan.

Sa labas, lights are twinkling, carols are playing, at everyone seems happy, pero sa puso ng ibang tao, hindi lahat ramdam ang saya. For many LGBT individuals, the holidays can be beautiful and challenging at the same time. Family gatherings, expectations, and the pressure to “fit in” can sometimes trigger feelings of loneliness, anxiety, or even depression. Madaling isipin na Pasko is all about joy, food, and celebration, pero for some, it’s a time of reflection, of wondering if they are truly accepted, loved, or safe to be themselves. Parang malamig at tahimik na gabi sa labas, peaceful for some, pero heavy at nakakapagod para sa iba.

Kaya mahalaga na during this season, we reach out and create spaces of care and understanding. A simple message or call to an LGBT friend can remind them that they are not alone. Listening without judgment, encouraging open conversations, and being genuinely present are ways to show that they matter. Sa mga kailangan ng professional support, it’s okay to suggest therapy, counseling, or support groups, these are steps toward healing and reassurance that their struggles are valid and acknowledged.

Mental health is real, and we have to remember na hindi lahat ng laban nakikita. Even during the brightest and most festive nights, some are quietly battling internal challenges. But with love, empathy, and presence, we can help lighten their hearts and make them feel less isolated.

This Christmas, let’s give the gift of acceptance, compassion, and support, because sometimes that’s more meaningful than any material present. Everyone deserves a Christmas where they feel truly seen, loved, and safe, no matter their identity.
